Taking to dance at the kinder age of four, Anupama Mohan has danced to fame. A native of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh and the wife of veteran Malayalam Film Maker Mohan, Anupama is one of the best known disciples of Kuchipudi Acharya Padmabushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam.

::Starting at the age of four
She received the first invitation to dance when she was just four years old. Till the age of eight, she was under the guidance of Guru Shri. Kota Subramanya Sastry of Nellore, following which she was credited with as many as hundred performances in Andhra Pradesh with in a short period.
::Under the Guru

Later she joined the renowned Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai and soon became one of the fondest gifted disciples of its Founder - Director the Living Legend, Guru Padmabushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam.
She settled in Chennai thereafter for further learning under Gurukula Sampradayam for more than 16 years and did her schooling in Chennai itself. She was always there in blessed handful of fond disciples of the Guru. Even during her days in the Gurukulam, Anupama was one of the leading artists in the Guru's troupe for stage performances.

::Master Pieces
She had presented almost all important characters in the troupe's ballets. Her masterpieces were Narada in Sri Krishana Parijatham and Parvathi, Erukulasany in Srinivasa Kalyam where Ms. Manju Bhargavi played the role of Srinivasa who was also her batch mate. As an approval of her performance Anupama had been nick named "Narada" by the Kuchipudi enthusiasts.

 

After a through rigorous training that saw her blossom into an artist of technical and emotive excellence, she continued in the Academy on its teaching staff after her 16 years of training. She was with her Guru for more than 20 years altogether and continues to be under the hallow of his blessed guidance.
::A delight to watch
With an in-born passion for the Kuchipudi Art form, she is a dancer whose graceful movements, Rhythm and sensitive Abhinaya are a delight to watch. Her performances are marked by the empathy and elegance complimented by delicacy and warmth of aesthetic communication. She has won the hearts of the connoisseurs with her compelling stage presence, classical artistry and nuances of expression, wherever she has performed; be it in India or abroad.
::Rare, unique moments
In her kinder age itself she got an opportunity to perform in the presence of Dr. Sarve Palli Radhakrishnan (Former President of India). In early seventies itself she started touring India and abroad. Her first trip was to the Independent Nation Sikkim in 1971; where she got another great opportunity to perform in the presence of King of Sikkim. A glance through Anupama's career on the international scene would include her performances in the Yuv Utsav Festivals held in Delhi 1974 conducted by Sangeet Natak Akademi and later in Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) for Telugu Prapancha Maha Shaba. In 1977 Kuchipudi Art Academy, Chennai honoured her with Natya Visharada. In 1979 she had another great opportunity to perform along with the famous dancer Ms. Kamala Lakshman in Sri Lanka. Thayagaraja Gana Shaba honoured her for Outstanding Kuchipudi Performance in Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh). Konark Festival held in Orissa, Mamal Festival held in Mahabalipuram, Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Surya Festival held in Trivandrum (Kerala), Nishagandhi Festival held in Trivandrum (Kerala), Vengi Festival held in Ellore (Andhra Pradesh), Akhilabharatha Kuchipudi Mahostavas held in Kuchipudi (Andhra Pradesh), Sidhendra Yogi Jayanthi Mahostavas held in Kuchipudi (Andhra Pradesh), National Dance Festival conducted by the Government of Kerala in Karasgod in 2002 are some of the other major events in her illustrious career. She became an "A" graded artist of Doordarshan in 1994. Kaladarpana honoured her with Natya Jyothi in Cochin (Kerala).
In 1974 she accompanied her Guru Padmabushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam to London with her batch mates Ms. Hema Malani and Ms. Shoba Naidu. Later in 1975 she made a four months Europe tour to France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium and many other cities with her batch mates Ms. Bala Kondalarao, Ms. Lolo (French) and Mr. Kamadev. She had performed more than 36 stages during this tour alone. She had widely traveled in the Middle East also for performance.

Besides she has performed in various cities all over India Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Ahamadabad, Kolkatta, Jamshedpur, Bhopal, Mumbai, Pune, Raipur, Nagpur, Por-Bunder, Cuttack, Bhubaneshwar, Vishakhapatnam, Bangalore, Mangalore, Chennai, Pondicherry, Kanyakumari and some of the temple cities are Kollur Shri. Devi Mookambika temple (Karnataka), Udipi Shri. Krishnan temple (Karnataka), Tirupathi Shri. Venkateswara temple (Andhra Pradesh), Guruvayoor Shri. Krishnan temple (Kerala), Chennai Shri. Ayyappan temple (Tamil Nadu) and many other cities and town are also among others.

She had done nearly thousand stage performance till to-day in India and abroad.

She has given many lecture demonstration classes all over Kerala and recently in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Trichur (Kerala) for The National Seminar on Sanskrit, Indian Culture & History where she had performed besides giving an effective lecture demonstration.

She lives in Cochin and heads SATHYAANJALI Academy Of Kuchipudi Dance. Has two sons Purander Mohan and Upendhar Mohan.
